Be in “Personal Growth” during COVID-19 instead of “Fear”

It is often during challenging times that we as humans tend achieve our greatest and highest spiritual growth. We all have been given a great opportunity to sit, do nothing and look within- sometimes a very difficult task indeed.

On 31 December 31st, 2019 a pneumonia of unknown cause was detected in Wuhan, China and it didn’t take long for COVID-19 to become a global pandemic that has been declared a public health emergency by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in most countries. Currently there more than 1,213,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways infection around the world, with 65,652 confirmed deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Countries have gone into lockdown and we have been confined to our homes for the larger part of our daily lives. I believe this has forced us to take a long hard look at ourselves, to realize what is important and what is not. COVID-19 has showed us that everything is temporary and non-essential, this includes our work at offices, gyms, parties, malls movies, society’s pressures are all but an illusion that we use to busy ourselves in.

We are all now learning other ways of existence, a much slower existence perhaps, a more meaningful existence where we have to really connect with our families, partners, friends or whoever we happened be living with at the time this has happened.

So now we have a choice and I’m sure everyone is on an emotional roller coaster that is varying with intensity. BUT I also do want to emphasise just like COVID-19 has shown us that everything is temporary so are our emotions. I wanted to take a moment and reflect on our emotions and our behaviours and their underlying meaning and where we may get stuck. Do not stay in “fear” which is an underlying emotion. This may mean you are going frequently to the supermarket grabbing things you don’t necessarily need or have room for, don’t forward all the messages you are getting as a large portion of these may not necessarily be true, do not read news mindlessly, and also do not spread or take out your fear on others by being easy to anger and to react and do not complain about this! There is nothing you can do really! Instead, do what you are in control of live in the present, enjoy the company of those you are with (even though it may be very difficult at times), be positive, happy and spread love, meditate, be empathetic toward what others are going through, spread kindness to yourself and be of service to others and most importantly find meaning in what YOU do every day, focus on what you want to create for yourself going forth- there is no better joy.

Finally, I will leave you with a reminder be kind to yourself. In other words, you will have bad days, where you will feel down, where you may not be able to do all those things and that is okay. Just go with it, allow yourself to watch TV mindlessly, to binge eat, to cry and to feel alone. As you are aware of the underlying emotion that is causing you to do this- This too shall pass!

Light & Blessings
